At Roveg, colleagues come together from different backgrounds, experiences, and generations. But for some employees, the connection goes beyond work. Meet Roel, a Warehouse Manager, and Martijn van Harten, Commerce Officer, who have built their careers at Roveg, each following their own path while sharing the same workplace.

How it all started

Roel van Harten has been working at Roveg for almost 17 years. His journey began in another company that handled logistics for Roveg. However, when Roveg opened its own warehouse and started handeling logistics, an opportunity arose to come to Roveg- for Roel, it was a great option- his wife, Anneke, was already working in the HR department, and the company would soon become a workplace for their son, Martijn, as well.

Martijn came to Roveg almost 15 years ago, fresh from his travels and ready to get back to work (and pay off those travel expenses!). With both his parents already at Roveg, he heard about some job openings, applied, and soon enough, the family had another Roveg colleague.

He started in the customs department and later gained experience in logistics. After several years, he moved into the commercial department, where he has been working for 11 years!

Although Roel and Martijn joined the company at different times and followed different career paths, they now share something special: both have built a significant part of their professional lives at Roveg.

Working with Family

Working together was not new for Roel and Martijn! Long before they became colleagues at Roveg, they had already teamed up in the greenhouses when Martijn was younger, as well as during a few holiday jobs at Roel’s previous workplaces.

One thing they both appreciate is that they understand each other well.

“We have a good relationship and keep private and work life separate,” Roel explains.

That mutual understanding also means disagreements are rarely an issue. Both say they cannot recall having any disagreements at work. Instead, they focus on solving problems together, regardless of who is involved.

For Roel, seeing Martijn develop professionally has been particularly rewarding.

“I followed it very closely. It makes me proud, and I did not expect that he would be working at a commercial department.”

Learning from Each Other

Both Roel and Martijn have learned something from each other’s approach to work.

Martijn describes his father as someone who stays down to earth, remains positive, and always tries to make the best of a situation, even when things do not go as planned.

He also admires the effort his father puts into his work. “Not only at Roveg, but also before he worked here. He always worked very hard and did a lot for the company.”

For Martijn, one of the best things about working with his dad is knowing he can always count on him.

“I can always rely on my father at work and outside work, and that is what I really appreciate a lot.”

For Roel, seeing his son’s development and the responsibilities he has taken on is a source of pride.

Their relationship is built on trust, respect, and the understanding that each has their own role to play.

Growing Together at Roveg

After almost 17 years at Roveg, Roel believes there is always something new to learn.

He describes Roveg as a company where there is always work to do, and it offers opportunities for growth by improving yourself and developing new skills.

Martijn shares a similar perspective. For him, one of the things that makes Roveg a good place to work is the freedom to put your own ideas into practice and build your own business within the company.

He also appreciates the colleagues and the challenges that come with the job.

“Things do not always go as planned. But that is what makes it fun.”

For both of them, working at Roveg means having the opportunity to grow, take responsibility, and contribute to the company in their own way.

More Than Just Colleagues

When we asked what they value most about working together, it was clear that their bond goes far beyond the workplace.

They may have different responsibilities and work in different departments, but their shared experience at Roveg has given them another way to connect.

And while they keep work and private life separate, one thing remains clear: having family as colleagues makes their time at Roveg even more meaningful.

At Roveg, they are not just father and son. They are colleagues who support each other, learn from each other, and take pride in growing together.
